Kyla Hassan

I’m a 21-year-old Turkish Cypriot journalist with a lifelong passion for storytelling and media. From an early age, English was always my favourite subject at school, and in my spare time, I would write fun short stories that gradually evolved into writing fan fiction, inspired by Netflix series I loved at the time. Writing quickly became more than a hobby for me, as it became how I understood the world around me. 

Alongside that love for writing came a natural confidence in speaking. I have always been known as the 'chatterbox', never afraid to talk and stand in front of a big crowd. From being Year 6 President in primary school to then being Head Girl in secondary school, leadership and communication have consistently shaped who I am. 

These passions naturally led me to study Journalism and Media at university, where what once began as hobbies evolved into clear career ambitions, particularly within broadcast and digital storytelling. 

Throughout my degree, I’ve developed not only my editorial voice but also a strong understanding of audience engagement and platform strategy. Today, I apply that knowledge through being the Social Media Manager for Waffle&Co, where I combine creativity and a strong understand of the algorithm, to produce content that is both engaging and impactful.
